Chris at Hither Green IT helped me get the best deal on a phone, configured my laptop for remote working, optimised my broadband and WiFi setup to get the best speeds as I work from home. Really excellent service from Hither Green IT. I’m in a post war period construction with very thick brick walls and I believe a suspended concrete slab between levels. Chris managed to not only get wireless strong enough to have Netflix on in multiple rooms, but also managed to bridge it across the garden to the home office I had built back there. A home office the builders had neglected to run ethernet to despite it being on the plans. Remarkably drama free install and not only have we been left with a really tidy and tucked away router and stuff but Chris also left extensive documentation on how the network was configured for any troubleshooting that may be needed in future. Will definitely be recommending to any friends and family with computer/internet issues.

My MacBookPro stopped working out of the blue and I had no idea what the issue was. I took it into the Apple store and they told me that it was going to cost me a fortune to get it fixed and advised me to buy a new laptop instead as mine wasn’t worth fixing. Easy to book, very knowledgable and quick. And good price! We’ve been looking for an IT expert for several years who could sort all our various IT problems - internet connection, computer malfunction, optimising gaming for 2 teenage boys, basically Chris was able to answer all questions (also for smart phone) , get parts and get everything completed in a week! I have been using the services of Hither Green IT for some years now. Knowledgeable and hands on! Sorted. I had terrible WiFi reception at my new home in Lee and Chris was fantastic. He understood exactly the cause of the problem. In fact he had already written reviews about it and proposed an affordable solution totally tailored to my house and how we use it. He prepared a schematic diagram of the proposal for me to understand and very quickly came over and did it all in a few hours. The difference was outstanding. Problems with a blown-up pc and transferring a hard drive to a new computer. All handled very efficiently. And then problems with software conflicts and email that wouldn’t function. The service was excellent – problems solved. But beyond that, Chris is an expert who can also explain what he is doing and why he is doing it. It makes him a practioner who is very reassuring. Very helpful, competent, pleasant, understood clearly the issue… I would fully recommend Chris from Hither Green IT. I have two teenagers with iPhones and I had been fighting for ages the never ending battle against Tiktok over my children’s brains - feeling I was miserably loosing. Chris came round quickly, was good at listening and understanding what I was hoping to get, and technically brilliant. He was able to set up everything I was hoping to have. Tiktok, Instagram, Netflix - we parents have a strong ally in Hither Green IT and for now at least, I feel like I have (partly) won the war.

Chris has been a real godsend. He repaired my old computer, added proper back up storage, sorted out the muddle of my accounts with Google etc and also set up a new tablet for me. With great patience and tact (I am 72!) he taught me how to make my tablet, phone and laptop talk to each other and to the printer. Nothing is too much trouble for him; he’ll send off for stuff so you don’t have to do it yourself if you are shielding and can’t go to the Post Office and is careful in terms of Covid. He also sorted out my Virgin router. The fees for all that were remarkably low. He’s thoroughly professional, friendly and what he doesn’t know about IT isn’t worth knowing! He has a website with articles he’s written for those of you who are up on IT but he’s also good at explaining things clearly and simply.

Electronic waste is a huge problem around the globe, and every year tonnes is shipped out of the UK and irresponsibly disposed of:

Hither Green IT is committed to reducing electronic waste. Wherever possible, we will always try to repair and/or upgrade in the first instance as opposed to replace.
We also partner with the Alanouwaly Salifou Sylla Foundation, taking donations of computer and electronic equipment to send to the Learning and Information Centre Project in Guinea. All items are checked before sending to ensure that they can definitely be of use and to ensure they don't end up in landfill once they arrive.
If you have any items that are partly broken, or you aren't sure if they might be of use, do get in touch using the contact form below and we can advise what can be salvaged and repaired for donation and what needs to be responsibly recycled. If possible, it's really helpful if you can send model numbers and/or photos so we can assess any potential donations.
To give you an idea of the types of items we can and can't take, have a look at the lists below.

I cannot recommend Chris and his company highly enough. He rescued my hard drive and gave my PC a new lease on life. The work was done in a matter of days (incl ordering and arrival of parts) and he kept me informed of progress. He also saved me a lot of money compared to another quote I was given and is very generous with his knowledge and expertise.
